Application of Laser Cutting for Led Light Bar Aluminum Substrate

The aluminum substrate is a metal-based copper clad laminate with good heat dissipation function, which generally consists of three layers: a circuit layer (copper foil), an insulating layer and a metal base layer.

Compared with PCB circuit boards, FR4 sheets, glass fiber boards, etc., aluminum substrates have the advantages of strong machinability, good electromagnetic shielding performance, and high dimensional stability, and are especially widely used in the field of LED lighting.

As the substrate of the LED light bar, the aluminum substrate often needs to be cut and punched.

laser cutting aluminum substrate

There are three main cutting methods for aluminum substrates:

CNC drilling/gong machining, mold stamping, and laser cutting and punching.

Compared with the first two kinds of high cost, low precision, and cutting defects such as burrs, laser cutting and punching is a processing method that takes into account both efficiency and aesthetics.

In recent years, the laser cutting and punching process has been widely used in many light bar manufacturers.

The laser uses a high-energy laser beam to focus on the surface of the aluminum substrate to form a high-temperature area to achieve the effect of cutting, which has significant technical advantages.

Advantages of Laser Processing

1. The non-contact processing method has no mechanical stress, which greatly avoids the wear of the material surface. No tool cost, cost saving and fast processing speed.

2. The laser processing precision is high, the slit is small, and the tolerance range can reach plus or minus 0.02mm. The cut surface is smooth, one-time molding, no need for repeated processing.

3. Simple operation. The processing graphics can be edited arbitrarily, and the CAD drawings can be imported.
